Burstall is known for Burstall pass which is among the best trail in Kananaskis I heard. I did it in winter when it was snowing and I couldn't see anything. But today our goal was summit of Mount Burstall.

Giant backbone. We scrambled this one and spent bet playing with the bone. This beast was mean and scary. Actually you can see Mark on the bone if you look closer.

At the steep physically demanding slope, we see more steep hill. That's the way to the peak.

4 bumps. Only 3 of them has name. Mouse over.

At the ridge close to the peak, where it got narrower and exposed.

Last bit of ridge. This ridge where Mark is standing, I suggest to go around… Trust me. At the end of the ridge, there is a little drop where you have to lower your body to the exposed ridge where there isn't many good holding and yet rocks are loose and easily break off. Anyway as I was approaching the big rock slab sticking out, I thought, "Ohhhhh S###!!, I am not going to scramble up that beast!" But now I think about it, there isn't much different where I was standing and standing on the top of the slab. It's only add 15 more meter to fall, out of how many hundred meter of drop at this point?

When I was enjoying the view, I saw a person. A woman. This mountain is rated difficult and only capable scramblers come here. The route we took is from scramble book and this peak is surrounded by cliffs except the way we came up. I didn't see anybody ahead of us, so I was like "My god, where did she come from???" Look where she is!!

Earth shoot.

Mount Burstall | 2009-08-09

A party of 4 came from the hardcore route. As far as I could tell, the slope where they came was like 70 degrees, and they weren't carrying rope which means they were not climbers, they were scramblers like us.

Look at the woman. I wouldn't surprised if she has grand kids, yet she came up on the hardcore route… There are always crazier ones.

Party is over. Going back the narrow ridge.

Who does that? Mark is standing with one foot on a pointy ridge where both sides has drop to the heaven, just for the picture. The death is less than one step away.
