FINALLY, I had chance to visit my favorite mountain, Mount Assiniboine. I like the mountain so much, despite of its difficult spelling, I remember how to spell "Assiniboine". Aga and I were originally planed to go to Robson however the smoke situation was brutal as well as the weather forecast wasn't great, we switched the plan to Assiniboine at the last minutes.
Our route was long but scenic route from Sunshine Village. We took shuttle bus from ski resort parking to the Village. From there we hiked Citadel Pass trail all the way to Lake Magog Campground in one day. This means near 30 km hike with heavy backpack but I was entertained with Sunshine Meadow, Quartz Hill, Citadel Pass, and Valley of the Rocks. I could see Assiniboine from Quartz Hill, but after losing elevation right after Quartz down to Howard Douglas Lake, Assiniboine was no longer visible for a long time. So when it reappeared near Og Lake, it took me by surprise because now I was 16 km closer to Assiniboine it looked so much bigger.
By looking at GPS data, after all the ups and downs I had to go through with heavy pack, there is only 15 m elevation difference at Sunshine and Lake Magog... while total elevation gain is 1300 m. (゚ω゚=)

By the way if you are not my Facebook buddy you wouldn't know so I will let you know now. Assiniboine is married to ME, so don't touch her!! If you do we have to have talk with Jerry Springer in the middle.

A mother grizzly and 2 cubs that everyone was talking about at Assiniboine area. We were about 200 m away in a open area, I wasn't worry about it at all but Aga was little scared and she seemed stressed about me stopping to take pictures. Come on Aga, look at these 2 cute cubs, they are already big enough to bite my head off!

On Thursday evening, heavy smoke moved in. It was so heavy I could smell smoke and within 30 minutes the long lasted visibility for last 4 days was gone. However at the same time storm moved in as well. It snowed and rained over night clearing the air next morning.
