Tower of Babel | 2011-08-26

My GPS couldn’t get good signal while in the gully. It’s as good as 3 year-old’s drawing.
I came back to my car from over night Cathedral Mountain trip at noon. I was supposed to meet another group at Lake Lousie at 8:00 pm-ish, so I had time to do a small peak. Tower of Babel was my choice.
Approach:
The crux of this peak is actually to find a parking spot at Moraine Lake parking. I bet swinging my ice axe like a maniac helped. From the parking follow trail to Consolation Lakes. After 600 m from the trail head bouldering field from Mount Babel hit the trail. Go off-trail and aim the narrow gully from there (page 3).
To Summit:
The ascent gully wasn’t as loose as I expected. This peak being somewhat popular, loose rocks were already worn down, but still rockfall hazard is the biggest concern here. Make sure you know how to scramble up and down without triggering rock falls. After 400 m of slogging up steep loose rock slope, I reached a col. From the col the summit was only 5 min away.
