My parents moved out of Tokyo and now live in Nasu. Nasu is somewhat like Canmore. It's somewhat resort and close to mountains. Even though mountains around here aren't big, but at least mountains are 20 min away from the house.

I cheated by taking gondora. Right at the trailhead, I am about to leave my parents behind.

03

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

No visibility. The gondola station below.

04

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

To the summit of Chausudake from the gondora station was very short. Only 250 m gain.

Chausudake is actually active volcano. Year around you can see smokes coming out. I smelt sulphur. Also this peak is in the list of best 100 peaks in Japan.

06

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Despite the elevation, there was no plant, I am guessing this is due to volcanic activity.

Looking back the peak.

09

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Unlike the Rockies, rocks were friendly.

10

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Going down more to the col where old tea house was.

11

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

To Asahidake. Looks more like scrambling. Somebody drew a golden penis on a rock.

12

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Getting little more intense, the best part of the trip, but still easy scrambling with help of permanent chains and stairs…

13

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Going up.

14

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Most exposed part. Not too bad. Again there were chains.

15

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

If you look closely, most of the pictures I took, there are other peoples in the pictures. So many peeps…

On the way to the highest peak of the day, Sanbonyaridake.

17

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Unlike cold Canadian Rockies, green wasn't just green but also dense. It's not possible to bushwhack…

18

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

Pretty much hike to the summit. Beyond Asahidake, there were much fewer people, still there are 3 peeps in this picture…

19

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

I planed to go even farther from Sanbonyaridake to another peak, but I couldn't find the trail even though topo map says there is. So I gave up the last summit and decided to go back and do smaller peak on the way back.

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

In the afternoon, the weather improved, and I could see good view of Chausu and Asahi from on the way to Inkyogura. Mouseover for peak pointer.

Nasudake | 2011-07-01

After 4 official peaks, I was satisfied.
