Mount Ooooooooooowen was supposed to be a 2-day trip according to me, so I showed up with my big backpack while Raff had a day pack... Especially using bike I was wondering myself why it cannot be a day trip.
Approach:
We biked on Ottertail Fire Road for 9.4 km and ditched our bike at an obvious drainage which crosses over the trail. In other words, it's very hard to miss.
To Alpine:
We followed the drainage. The drainage was surprisingly very easy to walk. As we went higher terrain became steeper and it became lots of easy and moderate scrambling. Rocks are very very sharp, so don't forget to bring gloves.
To East Ridge:
We made a mistake! We kept going up and approached the summit from west ridge, but we were blocked by steep terrain and glacier and ended up losing some elevation to traverse to east ridge (page 11). My suggestion is traverse to east when you see a good route and don't go up all the way to the west ridge.
To the Summit:
From east ridge, getting to the summit is piece of cake which must means soft and sweet. I don't understand English.
Descent Route:
We took a different drainage to get down. Basically we used the drainage directly below the summit. Definitely easier terrain for descent and I recommend it for descent, but not so much for ascent though (You can't see this drainage from the trail). However there was a short bushwhacking at the end to get to the trail.
