I joined meetup group, CORA, for Kent North summit. Overall I found this summit was much shorter than I expected. We could have kept going on the ridge but due to cold and strong wind, we decided to get the heck out and had a short day.

Our route was little different from Nugara’s book and also we didn’t it in backwards. We parked at Sawmill parking lot and followed the same trail for James Walker until drainage from summit / outlier col. The drainage was quite easy to find since it came down near the trail. Until we get above treeline, we had to deal with bushwhacking and steep ascent, but nothing was too much (page 2). Once out of tree, all we had to do was to go up and up and up on rubble slope all the way to the summit. No route-finding or technical challenges.

For descent, we followed another drainage east of outlier (page 11). When the drainage became narrow and bushes getting on the way, we found a trail on outlier’s hill side. However, this trail wasn’t a great trail but as least took us to snowshoe trail.

I believe this mountain can be done in snow condition, but if you try I suggest to use our ascent route. There is a huge slab section on descent route. That can be avoided if you can see it but you won’t be able to see it when snow is on top and if you step in that you will trigger avalanche or need to self-arrest from sliding

There was no indication of when bushwhacking would end. We were suddenly under cloudy sky.

When I came to North Outlier, the weather was very similar expect less windy… I guess I don't have much luck with weather around here.

I heard about Rockies were getting shorter because rain dissolves limestone. It's true!! While we were descending, Spray Mountains were getting shorter. As matter of fact, they were under clouds earlier, but they were about as high as the clouds by noon!
