Originally I planned to attempt an unnamed peak at GR096525 near Goat Pond or possibly go beyond to Goatview Peak, however due to the difficulty of ridge and severe wind condition, I settled at a closer unnamed peak GR099515 which I nicknamed “Goat Pond South Peak”.

I parked at Three Sisters Dam. From the parking lot, I followed a trail underneath a power line about 2.7 km until near a creek which was little hard to find. I think it would have been better to park at Goat Pond Dam but it only makes the trip few hundred meters shorter I believe. Most of the way from here I thought it would be a long bushwhacking but I was pleasantly wrong. There was a good trail all the way to where I started ascending (page 2). My advice here is to be patient and make sure not to start ascending too early or otherwise it will be more difficult. I guessed it so I avoided difficult scrambling by going farther to west on ascent but for descent I decided to take a shortcut. There was 2 difficult scrambling I had to face because of that (page 10). Maybe another way is to go farther than I did and wait until hitting drainage then start ascending. Pretty much this drainage takes you to the summit anyway, it’s maybe a good idea.

Ridge to GR096525 from the summit was certainly looked difficult and exposed (page7). I wanted to keep going as far as I could but as I mentioned earlier, because of strong wind, I turned around.

By the way road condition on 742 is restored!! It was so horrible this summer…

I went up hill where trees were thinner and came to drainage. This drainage took me near summit.

Peaks north of Old Goat Mountain. Looks quite doable actually.

Ridge from here on was definitely difficult grade, many people must have stopped here.

It looks very impressive looking at wind creating cloud by hitting ridge, but actually being there would be simply nasty.

Ok weather but at least little bit of blue. Looking south.

On the way back, I took a different route just for the heck and I had to face this cliff band… Scary scary. I considered myself I was lucky that I found a line to come down this...
