Little unknown weather condition on Sunday, I thought it would be a safer choice to go to south peak of Mount Charles Stewart. Seeing Spirko & Nugara’s trip reports, it should be a scree scree scree approach and it was.

Approach:
Not really sure where to start. I had track from Spirko and we parked where he started. However the gate was closed and had sign saying anybody who enters the gate will be head chopped. On the way back we tried different route but that ended up in some farmer’s property… So please leave a note if you know where Johnny’s Trail starts. Johnny sucks!

After we came across Johnny’s stinky trail, we followed it. For a while we had a good trail but as drainage became narrower, the trail was swollen by the creek rocks, so most of the way we didn’t have trail.

South Slope:
After rather interesting walk through canyon, we came out at the bottom of south slope. It’s scree scree and more scree. Again I heard scree here is really good for scree run, but it was frozen… The slope became steeper as we scrambled up, especially last 200 to 300 m, rock fall hazards can be serious matter.

Forecast was saying up to 100 km wind but it was probably up to 30 or 40. We had the worst weather at the summit. Rest of the day was not bad at all.

Ridgewalker Mark Evans wanted to traverse this ridge between Lady Mac and South Charles. It is actually interesting. My be keep it for future trip.
