☆☆☆ Attack First / Later ☆☆☆
The rule is simple. In Arena, Novice Arena, World Boss, you attack first, the other game mode, you attack later. Obliviously in Underground Arena it’s random.
☆☆☆ Your Turn / Opponent’s Turn ☆☆☆
Who’s turn is next is little confusing, but if you don’t understand it, you can get in trouble especially in Guild War. Simple explanation is if merc attacks (or attempt to attack), then next turn is opponents’ turn. This is still true if merc can’t attack because it is stunned, frozen, or under similar effects, still next is opponent’s turn.
- Defender or warrior acts→opponent is next
- Supporter acts→you are next again
- Magician acts→If preparing (odd rounds) then you are next, if attacking (even arounds) then opponent is next
With this example, in 1st round, boss who is magician, and 2 act in a row. Then your Hell followed by Ceres, and John, then finally Jin act in a row. However in 2nd round, boss will attack, so after boss, it becomes your turn. Likewise Hell will attack, so next turn is opponent 2’s turn.
☆☆☆ Target ☆☆☆
Under normal circumstances, target will be one on the same row on opponet’s side. (You can check your target by clicking on a merc.) However if there is no one on the same row, then target will be chosen from 1 row below. If it is the bottom row, then target will be chosen from the top row.
☆☆☆ Taunt Priority ☆☆☆
When someone activates taunt, opponent mercs will attack the merc with taunt, unless they have Taunt Ignoring skill like Leto. What about when there are multiple mercs with taunt? The rule is the most front column, followed by the most top row will be prioritized. So on the left example, Granhildr (1) will be the target, but on right example, Astrid (3) will be the target. If you put Concentrated Fire skill on someone, then merc with Concentrated Fire is prioritized over merc with Taunt.
☆☆☆ Timing of Skill Activation ☆☆☆
There are mainly 3 timings, before battle, and before/after normal attack. (You can check it on skill detail page.) Before battle is self-explanatory, but what about before/after normal attack and what’s the importance?
Before get to that what is normal attack anyway? There are 2 kinds of attacks. Normal attack and additional damage. (You can check this on skill detail page as well.) When merc attacks, normal attack is always triggered. The damge is ATK or ATK x Crit DMG when critical happens. Additional DMG is coming from skills. Take Alche for an example. She has skill called Iron Wall Bash, and this is an additional DMG. On screen, normal attack is displayed with white number, and additional DMG is displayed with gray number.
Normal attack is triggered before additonal attacks as the name suggests, and this is very important for some mercs. Alche has another skill called Protection Nullifier which destroys target’s barrier, and this skill activates before normal attack. This means her normal attack and additional attack are not effected by oppoent’s barrier. On the other hand Melody has the same skill, but her case it activates after normal attack. Therefore Melody’s normal attack damage will be reduced by barrier, but her additional skill, Critial Bash, will not be affected by barrier.
☆☆☆ Buff & Debuff ☆☆☆
When do buffs or debuffs successfully apply or be prevented/removed is a complicated matter. Please see this subject from this page. You can also check all the buff and debuff status during battle by clicking on a merc.
☆☆☆ Damage Calculation ☆☆☆
- 1000 damage to an opponent with DEF 30%→1000 x (1 – 0.3) = 700
- 1000 damage to an opponent with DEF 30% and partial hit happens→1000 x (1 – 0.3) x (1 – 0.35) = 455
- 1000 damage to an opponent with DEF 30% and 15% barrier→1000 x (1 – 0.15) x (1 – 0.3) = 595
- 1000 damage to an opponent with debuff Incoming DMG boost 20%, DEF 30% and 15% barrier→1000 x (1 + 0.2) x (1 – 0.15) x (1 – 0.3) = 714
☆☆☆ Guild War ☆☆☆
On Guild War, you cannot see opponent’s attack order. However you can click on opponent’s supporters to check their target. That can help you guess opponent’s attack order.
